Some History
The First Baptist Church of Holley was established the same year that the Erie Canal was completed, 1825. The church has maintained a consistent witness for Jesus Christ for over 185 years. Our present building, constructed of Medina sandstone, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1990. It was completely renovated forty five years ago and has been kept in good repair since that time. A new parsonage was built in 1969 and a house adjacent to the church property was purchased to be used as the pastor’s study.
Our church is distinctly evangelical in perspective, eclectic in practice and conservative in doctrine. We are affiliated with the North American Baptist Conference.
The following “Historical Happenings” articles, written by Norm Wheeler, were published in the church’s “Holley Gazette” from October, 1995, through May, 1998, and offer some wonderful insight into our history.
